My initial response to Doug was too long for the
forum
(hate that)
So I took it off line the better help Doug
out
The Flex Track system is a "live" environment with
several parts that need to work together for a successful
installation.
There are thousands of installations out there working at deterring birds
and from time to time the system will become in-operative for a variety of
reasons. We suggest that a Maintenance contract
is sold with the system and the system is inspected about once a quarter to
insure it is operating correctly. The Maintenance fee varies with job size and
complexity, especially when there are access
issues.

Okay so I went down with my voltage meter to see
what was going on. I turned the unit back on after letting it sit for
almost two days and it was only getting .4 volts. I checked the line and
it was also getting .4 volts. I checked the battery and it was
connected. I unhooked the battery and it started cycling 9.6 , then 8.3,
then 6.2, then 4.8, on down then it would start back up in the 9's and cycle
down again. I hooked the battery back up and it was stuck again on
.4. I took the battery off, and I am taking it to a battery store to
see if there is a problem with the battery. Also, the 9.6 or 9. whatever
shock that the birds are getting doesn't feel like too much. Is this
right, and you have to be touching both tracks to get a charge at
all. Is that right? I know these are alot of questions, but the
director of the hospital isn't too impressed with the money they just spent to
get rid of their problem.
thanks

So I was supposed to connect those leads
before installing? I did not even open the back panel to check it before
installing it. Does that mean that the solar power alone is not enough
to work the line? I will check it out and check back in with
you.

The usual culprit
for this weakening over time is that the battery leads inside the solar
energizer were not hooked up.
The units are shipped with the leads to the battery
disconnected. And So Since the
energizer unit works just off the solar pretty well (except at night) so it is
easy to figure the unit is
working. (I was fooled by the at
a job site recently
myself)
Second thing to look for is did the birds find a way to drop junk, materials,
poop on the track? This usually
occurs when they have a perch located somewhat above the area the rack is
located. An accumulation of
droppings will short out the
track.

Re: [World] Bird

Cameron,
I installed the flex track a couple of weeks ago, and had to leave on on a
trip. When I left, I was in quite a hurry, so I was not able to let the
solar unit sit in the sun for 24 hrs prior to turning it on. It pulsed
pretty quick when I did turn it on, and it gave a pretty strong static
shock. I watched the next morning when pigeons would land on it, and
they would fly away quickly. I got back from my trip this week, only to
see all the pigeons back sitting on the ledge. I think I actually heard
one laugh at me! I got up on the ledge, and it was only giving a very faint
pulse. About 1/10 of what I recieved before. I did not have
my tester with me, but I decided to turn the unit off, and let it charge for
the 24 hrs or more. I installed 100 ft with the solar charger.
Could the charger initially not charging long enough cause this? It has
been in constant direct sunlight ever since I installed
it.
Thanks, Doug

Steve:
Sorry it took so long to respond to
your note; I thought it raised an interesting
point.
There are products that when
installed properly can deliver guaranteed results; install netting (properly)
on the underside of a loading dock overhang, and the birds will not be able to
get to the beams, pipes, lights etc. to roost. Zippers can be installed so
light bulbs can be changed and you’re
done.
Bird control is just like every
other trade out there, do enough of it and you will become proficient. Many
professional installers have done so much work they can tell in advance how
the birds will react to which product, and if they are likely to move to
another area on the same building (which generates an additional sale).
There’s always some give and take between the customer and the installer;
sometimes the customer does not want what we know to be the best solution.
Because of cost or perceived aesthetics they opt for not-the-best solution; an
experienced bird control provider can usually tell them what will happen if
they choose that solution.
I would be happy to help you if you
have any more questions.
Also, we have just launched a new
website for professional installers, www.birdbarrier.tv <http://www.birdbarrier.tv/>

We installed the plastic bird
barrier spikes, on a 6 story building and used the RDS. We installed 60 linear
feet, (10 feet on each floor) and we charge them 1,000.00 plus material which
was around 400.00. It went on easy. I think that in this type of work you
cannot guarentee that the product will work but you can try it. If it does not
work the you can sell them on plan

Hello
All
I just got done doing my first
install for bird barrier. I installed the electric track. It was
pretty simple once I got past the initial cleaning up the pigeon crap all over
the ledges. My question is this. I was given an open ended invioce
for the job, but I have never done this before, so I really have no idea of
the value, of what I've done. I'm not looking to take advantage of the
customer, but like I said, what is the worth of this service. I do know
that the customer was desperate to open up their nice new patio, and was
trying all kinds of other product to fix the problem (which did not
work). I really think this stuff is great. Let me tell you, it
does give quite a little shock! Also, I want to thank Racenstien for
doing a great job of rushing overnight the additional supplies needed to
finish the job that were not shipped in the intial order. They really
stepped up to the plate, and made things right in an obvious misunderstanding.
I look forward to any thoughts on pricing this type of
job.
