John,

Good point. For many years I was "Bell Window Service", and people would ask
me, "What do you do?". So 12 years ago I changed my name to "Bell Window
Cleaning" and people don't ask us any more because the name tells them. So
having a name that tells people what you want to tell them is important. The
name "Window Medics" does the same thing... the name says it''s a company
that "heals" windows, which is what they do.

The main concern I had with my name is this: it sounds like a one man
operation. I intend to grow and add employees, and I don't want to sound like
a one man operation. The name has served me well to this point, but I feel
it's time to move on. I could be wrong, but I think the perception of "The
Window Guy" might keep people from calling.

You are Window Medics, not Window Medic, and I know what my perception would
be if I were calling the Window Medic. I'd be calling a guy who works for
himself, probably out of his home. But when I call Window Medic
s, I'm not going to have that notion. I'd just be calling a business who can
take care of my problem.

Your name is not as important as you are making it. The service and quality
of work is what counts. Why do silly words like Yahoo, Pepsi, Google, Geek
Squad etc work for companies. What is a Pepsi? Its what you build and put
around the name that will make it successful or not. You could name yourself
the best name you can think of and that is still all you will be if thats all
you think there is to it.

Companies really dont care what your name is they care if you show up and do
quality work at a fair price. Build your business around that not your name.

Hello group-
I want to improve my image this coming year. I started with a name change. I
figure if I keep the name "The Window Guy", that's all I'll ever be. Second,
I'm getting into the yellow pages & phone book for the first time. I've also
recently bought new equipment.

I'm thinking the next logical step is to get uniforms. This is where I want
your opinions.
I recently acquired several pairs of Dickies dark blue jeans. I've been
thinking of getting some polo or golf shirts. I know a guy who knows a guy
that does silk screening. I was thinking a small logo on the front, and the
business name and phone number in large print on the back of the shirts.

My aim is to expand into more high end residential work. The bulk of my
business currently is storefront.
First, I want to know if you all think that uniforms would be the next
logical step.
Second, does the uniform I've described sound like a winner to you?
Thanks in advance for your help.-- John KieserThe Window GuyLongmont,
